A yearly birthday tribute for this famed and favorite poet: Charles Bukowski.
This year to celebrate Bukowski, Sean Cummings and the International House Hotel family enjoyed several events and activities across two days, from a screening of Bukowski (1973) by Taylor Hackford, stiff spirits, ham on rye sandwiches, to a one-of-a-kind burlesque show.
Unleashing Bukowski reclaimed the "Laureate of American Lowlife' on his 99th birthday by celebrating the unreal moment in time when America's most outsider city and America's most outsider writer forever changed American literature. Bukowski gained national attention when his books- It Catches My Heart in Its Hands (1963) and Crucifix in a Deathhand (1965)- were published in New Orleans by Jon and Louise "Gypsy Lou" Webb and their Loujon Press.
